3rd day - 5 Terre
The name Cinque Terre (five lands) comes from the number of small towns situated near this strip of rocky Ligurian coast. A corner of Liguria where generations have worked to shape a landscape.
“ dry” walls, cleverly built with no cementing substances, and covered by vineyards almost brushed by the waves of the sea. Today the Cinque Terre is a national park and a protected marine area, with the purpose of safeguarding this vast cultural heritage. Cinque Terre landscape is harsh and wild and even the coast reflects this nature. Leaving La Spezia, we meet Riomaggiore and Manarola, clinging to the rocks, with their houses piled up in multi-coloured mosaic overlooking the sea, the most typical and unspoilt villages of the five. Corniglia, the only village not on the sea, lies gently on a hill surrounded by vineyards, and has a sweet bucolic charm. Vernazza, located at the mouth of a river, is naturally protected from the threat of the sea by a rocky promontory and it has always been the only safe landing point in the Cinque Terre. Monterosso al Mare , the only centre with a wide beach and a seafront.
After breakfast, meeting point in the lobby of the hotel with an English speaking tour escort for a full day visit of Cinque Terre: a combination of train, walking (the most famous path of the Cinque Terre is the “ Via dell’ Amore”, Love Road, connecting Manarola to Riomaggiore) and boat with stop in Vernazza for a typical Ligurian lunch. Back to the hotel late in the afternoon and evening at leisure
